What this page shows
This page shows the public IP address of the connection open in your browser. It lists IPv4, IPv6 when the network has one, the provider, the city, the country and the time zone. The address is read in the browser. This site does not store it, and it is gone when you leave.
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 is four numbers separated by dots, for example 203.0.113.4. IPv6 is longer and uses colons. Many home and mobile connections only expose IPv4, so the IPv6 line stays hidden until an address is found. Copy places the address on the clipboard.
Provider and place
The provider is the operator that announces your address on the Internet, sometimes with its autonomous system number (AS). City, country and time zone come from public geolocation of that address. They describe the network exit, not a street, a house or a device.
Questions
What is my public IP address?
It is the address other servers see when this connection reaches them. It is not the private address used inside a home network, such as 192.168.x.x. This page shows the public one.
Is the IP address stored?
No. This site does not create an account, does not set a tracking cookie, and does not keep a log of the address. Your browser asks public lookup services, and the result stays on the page until you close it.
Why can the city be wrong?
Geolocation of an IP address is an estimate published by the network. A VPN, a mobile carrier or a shared company gateway often places the city in another region. The provider name is usually more stable than the city.
How the address is read
The page does not ask this website for the address. The browser calls public lookup services, the same kind any server uses to see who connected. The answer is written on the page and stays there until the tab is closed. Reloading asks again. There is no account, no tracking cookie, and no log on myip.denimal.ovh.
Public, private, and the address in between
A private address, such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x, only exists inside a home or office network. A public address is the one the rest of the Internet sees. Some carriers put many customers behind one shared address. This page can only show the public address of the connection that loaded it. It cannot see the private address of a phone or a computer, and it cannot see an address on another network.
Can the address be read with JavaScript turned off?
The text on this page is in the HTML, so it can be read with JavaScript off. The address itself cannot. Only the browser, on this connection, can ask the lookup services. With JavaScript off, the lines stay empty, and nothing is stored.
Why is the IPv6 line missing?
The network did not provide an IPv6 address to this browser. That is normal on many home and mobile connections. The line appears only when an IPv6 address is found.
